First Swim of the Season

Jeffrey watches another tennis ball float by in the current.
After swimming and cleaning off in the spring, Jeffrey must then have a mud bath.
Lesbionic keys. I've noticed several people eyeing the keys, but nobody has commented on that lovely picture of a girl with a heart sticker on it.

The Nature Reunion

A few quotes from biophilia research:

Each new year is a surprise to use.
We find that we had virtually forgotten the note of each bird,
and when we hear it again, it is remembered like a dream,
reminding us of a previous state of existence...
The voice of nature is always encouraging
- Henry David Thoreau

It is not half so important to know as to feel when introducing a young child to the natural world. - Rachel Carson

A child said What is the grass? fetching
it to me with full hands;
How could I answer the child? I do not
know what it is any more than he.
- Walt Whitman

What is the extinction of a condor to a child who has never seen a wren?
- Rober Michael Pyle

How I Yarn For A Crocheted Halter

Can you guess which of these two tops I want? How about the one that is NOT in the shape of Miss Kitty's perfect bowling pin pear body, the one that does NOT leave half a breast exposed to the elements of nature while the rest of the chest and collar bone stay warm under the thick alpaca yarn, or the one that does NOT remind me of the black velvet choker I thought was cool in 6th grade. Can you guess which one I'm thinking of?

Ozymandias

I just re-discovered this poem. I originally studied it my senior year in high school, and remember enjoying it but not the way I am right now. It's the epigraph at the beginning of Cadillac Desert, which I just started.

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Young Man in America

This is from Anais's facebook page. That's the back of my head on the far left, Michelle in the middle, and Ashleigh's big head on the right. Anais looks so tiny up there. She also looked tiny while I was stood next to her for half an hour. AND her husband is soooooo good lookin' in real life!

Last Lame Post for the Night

I found this adorable video of you from when we lived together back in 2k8! You should ask Meredith for this haircut again.

Heh heh...

Yelloh! Isn't this a great picture of me being strapped to a shorty backboard? That's the drab lobby of the fire station we have out class in.

Fun Bungalow A'glowin

I know this isn't a great picture of our teeny bungalow, though it is barely bigger than what you see, but isn't that sunset just stunning?! There are actually lots of leaves growing on the trees now, but this was a few weeks ago. I think I told you on the phone how everyone in the hood came out to check out the magnificent sky. It was a special moment.

Hair Dew

Look how long 'tis!

Here's my new 'do! I had such a great hair stylist--this awesome, quiet guy from Wisconsin who just really seems to love playing with hair. He spent so dang long with me on it. As you can see by these incredible self-portraits, I got a trim and many layers added, and the front shaped up.

Axolotl

Dude. This is a real creature. An amphibian.

"The Elusive System of White Privilege"

By Peggy McIntosh in 1988, on the "invisible package of unearned assets which I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious"

- I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.
- I can avoid spending time with people whom I was trained to mistrust and who have learned to mistrust my kind or me.
- When I am told about our national heritage or about civilization, I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.
- I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.
- I can be pretty sure of having my voice heard in a group in which I am the only member of my race.
- I can arrange to protect my children most of the time from people who might not like them.
- I can be pretty sure that my children's teachers and employers will tolerate them if they fit school and workplace norms: my chief worries about them do not concern others' attitudes toward their race.
- I can swear, or dress in second-hand clothes, or not answer letters, without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race.
-I can remain oblivious of the language and customs of persons of color who constitute the world's majority without feeling in my culture any penalty for such oblivion.
- I can worry about racism without being seen as self-interested or self-serving.

Kindred spirits

A dorky youtube viral video. Have you seen this?! Just really friggin cute. Gawd. Sorry that I haven't posted your brains out until now! My day today has been insane. Jude's school got cancelled today because of the slight drizzle of snow in the morning that turned to rain, and I ended up taking her to class with me and had to juggle many many balls in the air. And now I'm going to file my taxes this evening since I finally have all the information I need! Whew. I have all day off tomorrow and I'm going to totes call you. Oh and I'm going to the library to pickup the Hunger Games. I'm missing your companionship like crazy mang. Te quiero!
